Skeletal Cancer Trust

In 2006, the Children’s Welfare and Research Foundation began our support of the Skeletal Cancer Trust (SCT). Since then we have continued our support of the SCT raising over £300,000.

With the help of donations from the Children’s Welfare and Research Foundation, the Skeletal Cancer Trust has been able to purchase a new Biobank tank and new ‘liquid biopsy’ tests for osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma as well as so much more.

Who Are They?

The Skeletal Cancer Trust (SCT) seeks to improve the lives and increase the survival rate of children and young adults afflicted with bone cancer by initiating and funding scientific research, education and individual patient support.

The SCT treat primary Skeletal cancer, known as sarcoma, which is extremely rare. Their treatments consist of chemotherapy and surgery, with radiotherapy also being utilised occasionally. Sadly, the survival rate currently stands at 70%. With the help of generous donations, the SCT is at the forefront of enabling a greater understanding of skeletal cancer and its treatments.

A Testimonial form the Skeletal Cancer Trust

We are indebted to the CWRF for supporting the purchase of our new Biobank tank: this new storage facility replaces one of more than 30 years old and ensures the safety of the existing precious samples
and allows us to continue biobanking samples for the next two decades
